Alex Rodriguez was named the American League Most Valuable Player in just his second season in Yankees pinstripes. In addition to the award A-Rod had the best game of his career on April 26 2005 when he had a two-run home run a three-run home run and a Grand Slam along with 10 RBI in a game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Jason Giambi was honored with the American League Comeback Player of the Year Award for his dramatic turnaround during the 2005 season. After being sick and injured during most of the 2004 season and having a slow start in 2005 Giambi regained his power and control at the plate mid-season hitting 14 home runs in July which tied the Major League record set by Mickey Mantle in 1961. In addition Giambi posted his strongest numbers since 2003 and looks poised to improve even more in 2006.
