Originally a Kansas City Monarch in the Negro Leagues, Ernie Banks broke into Major League Baseball in 1953 with the Chicago Cubs, becoming the franchise's first African American player. The Shortstop/First Baseman played his entire MLB career with the Cubs, slamming 512 HR, driving in 1,636 runs, appearing in 11 All-Star Games, and winning 2 National League MVP Awards (1958, 1959). "Mr. Cub," as he is affectionately known, had his number 14 retired by Chicago, and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1977.
