Reds young star and possible future Rookie of the Year. First baseman and a top Reds prospect, Yonder Alonso, is moving up. Alonso was promoted from high Class A Sarasota to the Reds' Double-A affiliate at Carolina. "Our hope all along was to have him spend part of the summer in 'A' ball, get acclimated," Reds Minor League director Terry Reynolds said. "Even when at the beginning ... he has swung the bat very well. When the balls started dropping, his hits and RBIs started to come. We think he's ready for the next step. We're almost through the first half. The timing seemed to be right." The 22-year-old Alonso batted .302 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs for Sarasota with a .378 on-base percentage and .503 slugging percentage. Cincinnati's seventh overall selection in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami, Alonso signed a five-year, $4.55 million Major League contract in August that put him on the 40-man roster.
